Buy Vengeance Of The Dead On Amazon

After some extensive searching on IMDB and Amazon, I came across this little ‘lost’ Full Moon title and in the end, I’m wondering why this has not been re-pressed/released.

The basic premise here is Eric, who is visiting his grandfather in Asshit, Wisconsin comes across a spoon during a random romp in the brush. This spoon causes Eric to begin having visions of a family who lived in the house his grandfather now occupies being savagely beaten, shot and burned to the ground. Nice.

Shortly after these visions start, Eric being a spree of sleep-walk killings and that pretty much takes you through to the end which, obviously, I’m not going to spoil.

Vengeance does a lot of things right, but also does a lot of things wrong and, as usual, most of the ‘wrong’ things can probably be attributed to the budget they were working with.

This is an interesting story and there is definite promise that is there, but it gets dragged down by a completely lackluster cast. Seriously, everyone on board in front of the camera for this is fucking awful and it really is a major detractor. The camera work and editing, most of the time, is pretty good and some effects like the ‘spirits going through the wall’ shit is pretty good. It was surprising to me to find out that this was shot on DV as it really does have that film look to it and fails to fall into the fast action = easily discernible DV category.

The kills category is another thing that’s lacking but, if I’m reaching in the right direction, they are meant to go down the way they do. There’s only one ‘gore’ shot where a previous inhabitant of the house takes a shotgun blast to the dome and while obviously low-budget, it’s done pretty well – according to the books and binders my wife, a crim. justice major, brings home.. it’s pretty accurate. The fire scenes are also pretty well done and it works well to the their favor that an accelerant (fuck you, spellcheck) was used as that it obvious by the flame pattern.

As mentioned, the big thing going against Vengeance is the acting and the addition of far too much padding for a 70-minute movie. Other than that, this reminds me a lot of Dead and Rotting in that it, overall, shines given the limitations.

I would highly (hehe) recommend tracking this down on Amazon and giving it a go. At last check you can scoop a copy for about 4 bucks, including shipping, and it is definitely worth the price. The only thing I regret about this is that i didn’t look a little harder for the “Lunar Edition” which I’m sure delivers a lot more in the way of extras. As it stands, the copy I have is limited to a few trailers and a teaser and ‘Making Of…’ for the movie Warwolf which, after a quick search on IMDB, may or may not have ever been released.

End result – check this out. I wasn’t disappointed.

*** out of 5.
